On the stream that links the Great and Small Pliva lakes, a few kilometres west of Jajce, stands a cluster of about twenty small wooden watermills known as the Mlinčići. Each one sits on wooden piles over the rushing water, and for generations local families used them to grind their grain, a way of working the river that goes back to the Ottoman period. The mills have been rebuilt and repaired many times, and they form part of the protected natural and architectural ensemble of Jajce. Small footbridges cross between them, and they make an easy stop on the road between Jajce and the Pliva lakes, especially in the soft light of early morning or evening.
