Waltham Forest Islamic Association (WFIA) is fondly known as Lea Bridge Road Mosque was founded in, and has been serving the community since, the 1970’s. WFIA is one of the oldest and largest religious institutes in the borough. WFIA started in a house in Verulam Avenue, Walthamstow. As one of the first mosques in the borough, it quickly outgrew the house and bought a warehouse on Lea Bridge Road – its current location. Alhamdulillah, the local community is amongst the biggest hearted communities in the country and donated in their droves to re-develop the warehouse in the 1990’s into an outwardly looking mosque that you see today (see before and after pictures) and is now one of the most the iconic buildings in the borough.
