The Daqqaq Mosque is one of the great historic mosques of the al-Midan quarter, founded in the Mamluk period by Karim al-Din al-Daqqaq. It holds a special place for the people of al-Midan, the long quarter that grew up along the pilgrimage road leading south from the old city. The mosque is large, well kept and busy, with a prayer hall and courtyard that still serve the neighbourhood. It stands on the main road through al-Midan, close to the Tinbak al-Hasani Mosque and to the market streets known for their sweets.
