About Pool of al-Naqrah

Al-Naqrah was the station of Darb Zubaydah where the road to Madinah left the main route to Makkah. The station had a palace, two pools and a mosque built by Khalisa, the maid of Zubaydah, and eight milestones marked the road. The al-Jafniyah pool and the remains of the station lie near the old copper-mining village of Ma'dan al-Naqrah. Darb Zubaydah, the pilgrim road from Kufa in Iraq to Makkah, was laid out by the Abbasid caliphs from 751, and Zubaydah, the wife of Harun al-Rashid, paid for many of its wells, pools and rest stations, which is why it bears her name. Saudi Arabia and Iraq have placed it on UNESCO's Tentative List.
