This tapering brick tower is one of the Mughal milestones raised along the imperial highway between Lahore and Delhi. In 1609 the emperor Jahangir ordered such minars at every kos, a distance of a little over three kilometres, to guide travellers. The minar stands alone in farmland near the village of Manhala, east of Lahore towards the Wagah road. It is one of the few kos minars left around Lahore; another stands in Mughalpura.
