About Grave of Muhammad Abu Fanus

Sayyid Muhammad Abu Fanus, also known locally as Sabʿ al-Jazirah, is traditionally identified as Sayyid Muhammad al-Haʾiri ibn Ibrahim al-Mujab ibn Muhammad al-Abid ibn Imam Musa al-Kazim. Through this lineage, he was a descendant of Nabi Muhammad ﷺ through Sayyidah Fatimah al-Zahra, Imam al-Husayn and Imam Musa al-Kazim. He lived during the early Islamic centuries and belonged to a respected branch of the Ahl al-Bayt whose descendants became established in Karbala and other parts of Iraq. His father, Ibrahim al-Mujab, settled near the shrine of Imam al-Husayn in Karbala, and Sayyid Muhammad consequently became known as al-Haʾiri, referring to the sacred precinct of al-Haʾir al-Husayni. Genealogical works recognise him as an important ancestor of several Musawi families and scholarly households. The shrine in Dhi Qar is traditionally associated with him and remains a locally revered place of visitation, where he is remembered by the popular titles Abu Fanus and Sabʿ al-Jazirah.
