Located in the historic al-Mushāhadah quarter of Old Mosul, this mosque and shrine are traditionally associated with Sayyid ʿAbdullah al-Bāhir, the son of Imam ʿAli Zayn al-ʿAbidin, grandson of Imam al-Husayn (RA), brother of Imam Muhammad al-Bāqir and uncle of Imam Jaʿfar al-Sādiq. Through his mother, Fātimah bint Imam al-Hasan, he was also descended from Imam al-Hasan (RA).
