Khunays ibn Hudhafah al-Sahmi was one of the early Muslims of Makkah. He took part in the second emigration to Abyssinia and later emigrated to Madinah, and he fought at Badr. He was the first husband of Sayyida Hafsah bint Umar, who later married Nabi Muhammad ﷺ. He fell ill on the way back from Badr and died in Madinah early in 3 AH; the Prophet ﷺ led his funeral prayer. He was buried in al-Baqi' beside Uthman ibn Maz'un. His grave lies in the group around the grave of Sayyiduna Ibrahim, the son of the Prophet ﷺ, close to those of Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, As'ad ibn Zurarah and Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf.
