Abdulmecid II was the last Ottoman caliph, holding the title from 1922 until the caliphate was abolished in 1924, after which he lived with his family in France. He was also a noted painter and calligrapher. He died in Paris in 1944, and his body was kept at the Grand Mosque of Paris for ten years. On 30 March 1954 he was buried in al-Baqi'. His grave is shown a short way east of the enclosure of the family of Nabi Muhammad ﷺ near the entrance, and like the other graves it is level with the ground and marked by low stones.
