Sayyiduna Abu Sufyan ibn al-Harith ibn Abd al-Muttalib was a cousin of Nabi Muhammad ﷺ and also his foster brother, as both had been nursed by Halimah al-Sa'diyyah. A gifted poet, he accepted Islam on the road to Makkah in 8 AH and stood beside the Prophet ﷺ at Hunayn when many others fell back. He died in Madinah in 20 AH, and it is reported that he dug his own grave three days before his death. His grave lies near the entrance of al-Baqi', in the area of the old house of Aqil ibn Abi Talib, beside the graves of Aqil and of Abdullah ibn Ja'far. The graves here are level with the ground and marked by low stones.
