Al-Suwayq, near Yanbu, was a station of the Egyptian Hajj road, where pilgrims coming by land or landing at Yanbu turned inland towards Madinah. An Ottoman fort stood here to guard the road and its water. The remains lie inland from Yanbu, along the old route towards Yanbu al-Nakhl and Madinah. It is one of the sites of the Egyptian Hajj Road, which Saudi Arabia has placed on UNESCO's Tentative List.
