Imam Muhammad al-Fadl is the name traditionally associated with the historic shrine located inside Jamiʿ al-Fadl in the old al-Fadl quarter of central Baghdad. The area itself became known by the name of the shrine, which has long been regarded as an important local religious site. However, the exact identity of the person buried there is uncertain, as historical accounts attribute the grave to several different scholars or notable figures named al-Fadl, while the popular attribution to Muhammad ibn Ismaʿil ibn Jaʿfar al-Sadiq is not firmly established. It is therefore safest to describe it as the historic shrine traditionally known as Muhammad al-Fadl, whose precise attribution remains disputed.
