The sabil-kuttab of Sultan Qaytbay was built in 1479 on the order of Sultan al-Ashraf Qaytbay. It was the first free-standing sabil-kuttab in Cairo, a type of building that became common under the Ottomans. Water was drawn from a cistern below and given out from the ground floor, and children were taught in the kuttab above. The upper floor now holds a small public library. It stands at the start of Saliba Street near Salah al-Din Square.
