The Rashid National Museum is housed in the Ottoman house of Arab Kalli, governor of Rashid, one of the finest of the town's historic houses. It tells the story of Rashid, including its stand against the Fraser expedition of 1807 and the discovery of the Rosetta Stone nearby in 1799. The house stands in the old town near the al-Mahalli mosque. It has been closed for restoration in recent years.
