Muhammad ibn Sirin was one of the great Successors of Basra, a scholar of hadith and law famous for his piety and his gift for interpreting dreams. He passed away in Basra in 110 AH, a hundred days after his friend al-Hasan al-Basri. This small shrine on al-Ashraf Street has been honoured in his name for generations, and his mawlid is still held here each year. He is buried in Basra.
