The Manial Palace was built between 1899 and 1929 by Prince Muhammad Ali Tawfiq, son of Khedive Tawfiq, who designed it himself in a blend of Ottoman, Moorish, Persian and Mamluk styles. He left it to the nation as a museum. Within its walls stand a residence, a throne hall, a hunting museum, a private mosque and a museum of the prince's collections, set in a garden of rare trees. It lies on Rawda Island, close to the Nilometer.
