This mosque on al-Ashraf Street is honoured as the resting place of Sayyida Sakina, daughter of Sayyiduna al-Husayn ibn Ali and al-Rabab, who was with her father at Karbala. Mazarat Misr describes her as a woman of learning whose gatherings were sought out by the poets of her day, and records that she passed away in 117 AH. Shrines in her name are also honoured in Damascus and in al-Baqi' in Madinah. The mosque stands on the old road of the Ahl al-Bayt shrines, between those of Sayyida Ruqayya and Sayyida Nafisa. It has been rebuilt several times over the centuries and has been under restoration in recent years.
