This gateway is all that survives of the wikala built in 1341 by the amir Qawsun, cupbearer to Sultan al-Nasir Muhammad. The wikala was a great inn for merchants. The gate keeps its founding inscription with Qawsun's name and his emblem, a cup. It stands on Bab al-Nasr Street behind the mosque of al-Hakim.
