The Temple of Hathor at Dendera is one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt, built mainly in the Greek and Roman periods. It is famous for its painted astronomical ceilings and its many chapels and stairways. It stands on the west bank of the Nile opposite Qena, about an hour north of Luxor.
