The mosque of Aqsunqur was built in 1346 to 1347 by the amir Shams al-Din Aqsunqur, son-in-law of Sultan al-Nasir Muhammad. It is known as the Blue Mosque for the blue and green Iznik-style tiles added to its qibla wall by the Ottoman amir Ibrahim Agha in 1652. The tiles show cypress trees, flowering plants and vases, and the mosque also has a fine marble minbar. It stands on Bab al-Wazir Street in Darb al-Ahmar, on the way from Bab Zuwayla to the Citadel.
