Hasan Kafi Pruščak (1544-1615) was the greatest Bosnian scholar of his age. Born in Prusac, he studied for nine years in Istanbul, returned home in 1575 and served as qadi of Prusac from 1583, writing some seventeen works in Arabic and Turkish. The best known, Usul al-hikam fi nizam al-alam, written in 1596, is a treatise on justice and good government addressed to rulers and their ministers. He is buried in Prusac beside the madrasa he endowed, in an open turbe: a sarcophagus of finely carved stone slabs on a paved platform, marked by two plain octagonal headstones. The madrasa and grave were being restored in 2024-25. The turbe of Ajvaz Dede and the town's clock tower are a short walk away.
