Zafar, south of Yarim, was the capital of the Himyarite kingdom, which ruled much of Yemen from the late second century BCE to the sixth century CE. Today it is a small village above the ruins of the ancient city. The museum at Zafar displays carved reliefs, inscriptions and architectural fragments found at the site, and rock-cut chambers can be seen in the hillside around it.
