Uways al-Qarani was a righteous man of Yemen who believed in Nabi Muhammad ﷺ in his lifetime but never met him, because he stayed at home to care for his mother. He is remembered as one of the greatest of the Tabi'in, the generation after the Companions, and Umar ibn al-Khattab is reported to have sought him out. He was martyred at the Battle of Siffin in 37 AH, fighting on the side of Sayyiduna Ali. His shrine in Raqqa, which also commemorated the Companion Ammar ibn Yasir, was long a large pilgrimage site, and this listing marks the site.
