About Shubra Palace

Shubra Palace was built between 1904 and 1906 and named after a palace in the Shubra district of Cairo, which inspired its design. It has around 150 rooms over four floors, with white walls, marble columns and dark wooden rawashin in the Hijazi style, and a double alabaster staircase inside. King Abdulaziz used it as his summer residence from 1932 to 1953, and it later served as government offices. In 1995 it became the Taif Museum, with halls on the history of the city and the region from before Islam onwards. Several visitors report that it has been closed for some years, so it is worth checking before going; the outside can be seen from the street.
