Sayyidah Hafsah, daughter of Umar ibn al-Khattab, became a wife of Nabi Muhammad ﷺ in 3 AH, after the passing of her first husband, Khunays ibn Hudhafah. Like the other Mothers of the Believers she lived in a small room built against the mosque, and hers stood next to the room of Sayyidah A'ishah. Sayyidah Hafsah was known for her fasting and night prayer, and she was entrusted with keeping the written sheets of the Qur'an gathered under Abu Bakr, from which the copies of Uthman's time were made. The rooms of the Prophet's ﷺ wives were absorbed into the mosque in the Umayyad expansion, so her home now lies within Masjid al-Nabawi. She passed away in Madinah around 45 AH and was buried in al-Baqi'.
