Muhammad and Ibrahim, the two young sons of Muslim ibn Aqil, were taken captive after the events of Karbala in 61 AH and held in Kufa. Tradition relates that they escaped and were given shelter, but were discovered and killed, and their bodies thrown into the Euphrates. Their father, Muslim ibn Aqil, had been killed in Kufa shortly before as the envoy of Sayyiduna al-Husayn. Their shrine, with two domes side by side, one over each grave, stands near the town of al-Musayyib, about 30 kilometres from Karbala. It is visited by many pilgrims, especially walkers on the way to Karbala for Arba'een.
