Imam Muhammad al-Jawad (195–220 AH), also called al-Taqi, was the son of Imam Ali al-Rida and the ninth Imam of the Ahl al-Bayt in Shi'a belief. He took up that role while still a child, and he became known for his knowledge and his generosity, which earned him the title al-Jawad. He passed away in Baghdad at about twenty-five years of age. He was buried in the Quraysh cemetery beside his grandfather, Imam Musa al-Kazim. The two graves now lie under twin golden domes at the heart of the shrine of Kadhimiya, one of the most visited sanctuaries in Iraq.
