Shaykh Allam Nassar was born in 1891 in Mit al-Izz in Menoufia. He memorised the Qur'an in his village, studied at the Ahmadi Mosque in Tanta and graduated from the School of Sharia Judiciary in 1917. He rose through the Sharia courts to the Supreme Sharia Court and taught at the Faculty of Sharia, and he served as Grand Mufti of Egypt from 1950 to 1952, issuing about 2,189 fatwas. He passed away in 1966. His grave is in the cemetery of Sayyida Nafisa, near the tombs of the poet Hafiz Ibrahim and of Shaykh al-Azhar Hasan Ma'mun. The mosque and shrine of Sayyida Nafisa are a short walk away.
