Shaykh Abd al-Ghani Salih al-Ja'fari was the son of Shaykh Salih al-Ja'fari, the Azhar scholar and imam who founded the Ja'fariyya order. He led the order after his father and carried on his scholarly and teaching work. He is buried beside his father in their mosque in al-Darrasa, behind al-Azhar and close to al-Azhar Park. Each year the order holds a mawlid there in honour of the two shaykhs, with Qur'an recitation and the singing of religious poetry, attended by shaykhs of other Sufi orders and scholars of al-Azhar.
