The Yellow Fortress, Žuta Tabija, is a cannon bastion built between 1727 and 1739 by Ahmed Pasha Rustempašić Skopljak at the entrance to the walled city of Vratnik. It stands on a terrace above the Kovači quarter, with a view straight down over the Baščaršija and the whole of Sarajevo. Today the bastion is a park with a café and one of the most popular viewpoints in the city, especially at sunset. During Ramadan a cannon is fired from here to mark the time of iftar, a tradition much loved by the people of Sarajevo.
