Ba'rin Castle stands on a hill west of Hama, on the road between Masyaf and Homs. In 1137, while it was held by the Crusaders, Imad al-Din Zangi besieged it, defeated the relieving army led by the king of Jerusalem in the battle beneath its walls and took the castle soon after. Only parts of its walls, towers and deep ditch survive, but the site is remembered as one of the first great victories of the Zangids against the Crusaders.
