Sayyid Ibrahim, son of Abdullah al-Mahd and great-grandson of Sayyiduna al-Hasan ibn Ali, was known as al-Jawad, 'the generous'. He was the brother of Muhammad al-Nafs al-Zakiyya and rose with him against the caliph al-Mansur, and he fell at Bakhamra near Kufa in 145 AH. Mazarat Misr records that his grave is in the Tibr Mosque in al-Matariyya, where Cairo has long honoured him. The small mosque that keeps his name stands in al-Matariyya in north-east Cairo, in the same district as the obelisk of Senusret I.
