Sayyida Fatima al-Nabawiyya, daughter of Sayyiduna al-Husayn ibn Ali, was born in Madinah and married her cousin al-Hasan al-Muthanna, to whom she bore Abdullah al-Mahd. Mazarat Misr describes her as a transmitter of hadith and a protector of orphans, known as 'the mother of orphans', and records that she passed away in 110 AH. Cairo has honoured this mosque in Darb al-Ahmar as her resting place for centuries. The mosque stands in a narrow lane off Souq al-Silah, near the Rifa'i and Sultan Hasan mosques. Opposite it is the small shrine attributed to Abdullah al-Dasuqi, brother of Ibrahim al-Dasuqi.
