Bab al-Awali was one of the gates of Ottoman Madinah, on the south-eastern side of the city, from which the road led to al-Awali, the higher ground of farms and palm groves south-east of Madinah. It is marked on the Ottoman General Staff map of Madinah drawn in 1880. The gate was taken down with the walls in the twentieth century. Its site lies about 350 metres south-east of Masjid al-Nabawi.
