The University of Baghdad, founded in 1957, is the oldest and largest university in Iraq, bringing together colleges that go back to the early 20th century. Its main campus at Jadriya was planned by Walter Gropius and The Architects Collaborative. The campus fills a bend of the Tigris, with the monumental open-arch gateway and the 19-storey presidency tower as its landmarks.
