About Graves of the Martyrs of al-Bahnasa (al-Sab' Banat)

Al-Bahnasa was a major town of Upper Egypt taken in the Muslim conquest after hard fighting, and so many Companions and martyrs are buried here that it is called the second Baqi'. The domed shrines known as the Sab' Banat, the Seven Maidens, honour women who are said to have fought and fallen in the conquest. The shrines stand among the old cemeteries of al-Bahnasa, near Bani Mazar in northern Minya. The village is visited all year round, and especially on holidays.
