Muhammad Husayn al-Dhahabi was a scholar of Qur'anic commentary whose book al-Tafsir wa al-Mufassirun remains a standard survey of the history of tafsir. He taught at al-Azhar, served as Minister of Awqaf, and passed away in 1977. His grave is in the Qarafa south of the Citadel, near the tomb of the Abd al-Raziq family.
