Ahmad al-Tahtawi was the Hanafi mufti of Egypt and the author of a much-used gloss on Maraqi al-Falah, a handbook of Hanafi worship, and another on al-Durr al-Mukhtar. He passed away in 1231 AH. He is buried in the mausoleum of Abu Ja'far al-Tahawi in the Qarafa, beside the great Hanafi scholar.
