Bab al-Futuh, 'the gate of conquests', was built in 1087 by the Fatimid vizier Badr al-Jamali as one of the northern gates of Cairo. It is one of three Fatimid gates that still stand. The gate has two rounded towers of finely cut stone, and the wall connects it to Bab al-Nasr and the mosque of al-Hakim. It marks the northern end of al-Muizz Street.
